Why did humans evolve w/ lips?

    They help you keep food in your mouth when you're eating/drinking and play a role in communication for example by allowing you to smile.

    Lips may have evolved first for food and later applied themselves to speech, but in kissing, they satisfy hungers of a different kind. In the body, a kiss triggers cascades of neural messages and chemicals that transmit tactile sensations, sexual excitement, feelings of warmth, motivation and even outright euphoria.

    Google included kissing: ... "Some scientists believe that fusing lips first evolved because it facilitates mate selection." That's interesting. Ventriloquists talk w/o lips ... lol.

    To facilitate eating, collecting food, communicating and facial expressions, all of which are fairly critical across human evolution.

    Basic sphincter muscle.  You have a similar one on the other end. It has lips of a sort too.
