When you go into a restaurant, are restaurant employees supposed to be nice to the customers or do the customers have to be nice to them?

So is it more normal that restaurant employees should be nice to the customers or are customers supposed to be nice to the employees?  Which one is more customary?

It is customary to kiss buttocks on whoever has the money.  So in this case; restaurant employees need to kiss buttocks on customers.

You should both be nice to each OTHER. There's no excuse for a customer being rude to a server and for a server being rude to a customer. Period.

Everybody is supposed to be nice and polite to each other.  A rude customer does not get the best behind the scenes service (food that falls on the floor does not get thrown out.)  A rude employee does not get tips.

Common courtesy would be both parties should be nice to each other.

The restaurant and its employees have a lot more at stake than the customers. Their jobs and income are on the line if they don't create happy customers. All a customer can lose is having a bad dining experience.

It's not a matter of "customary." It's a matter of survival in a very competitive industry.

Anyone who isn't prepared to deal with rude customers has no business being the the restaurant business or any retail business.
