Powdered yellow ochre, red oxide and/or charcoal mixed with water or animal fat.

Experts say they used charcoal from burnt wood, yellow ochre and red oxide rocks ground to a paste with spit, water and animal fat to make it sticky.  Also in a cave there is stable temperature and humidity, and daylight will not degrade the paintings.
