probability math question?

Eight students will be taking the courses shown in the following table in Semester

1.

Arnold: PHYS101, MATH101, ENGL101

Bill: PHYS101, CHEM101, ECON101

Carol: CHEM101, MGMT101

Denise: STAT101, ECON101

Eleanor: MATH101, MGMT101

Fred: PHYS101, CHEM101, MATH101

George: MGMT101, STAT101

Ingrid: ENGL101, STAT101

How many time periods must be allowed for these students to take the courses they want without conflict?

    Clearly we see 8 students and 7 subjects.

    Total numbers of time periods must be allowed for these students to take the courses they want without conflict

    conflict equals = 8!/(7! 8 - 7!) - 8!/(7!1!) = (8 x 7!)/7! = 8

    y = Frequency

    x = subject

    Frequency 3 3 2 3 2 3 3

    PHYS101 = 3

    MATH101 = 3

     ENGL 101 = 2

     CHEM101 = 3

     ECON101 = 2

    MGMT101 = 3

    STAT101 = 3

    Clearly see that the subjects have equal frequency = 3 as ENGL 101 and ECON101 have frequency = 2 which is indicated by the the above information ( please graph it Frequency vs subject) you will see the increments and decrements of the period according to the student.
