Feminists, why does the billion dollar organization known as planned parenthood need government money?
Yes, they provide women services, but providing women services does not warrant the government providing a billion dollar organization with money. If planned parenthood can pay their CEO a million dollars a year then they can provide women with all manner of services without the help of the government.
@Flunky: That still doesn't rationalize anything. Things being expensive doesn't make it other peoples responsibility to pay for.
@Green Puffin: So you realize that birth control is responsible for birth rates being below replacement, right? The fact that the country has to bring in immigrants just to keep the population from declining undermines your argument.
@Green Puffin: You ladies can't have it both ways when it comes to sexual control. You can't claim that abstinence is not realistic when speaking towards sex education in school and then turn around and say you will no longer have sex without birth control being available.

I agree that the CEO should not be getting that much but if they used the money to fund the clinics they would still need government help. That less than a million a year is not going to keep all the facilities up and running.

Because the female gender is the gender that becomes pregnant. Male humans are incapable of becoming pregnant and therefore the pregnancy has no affect on their own body. The CEO should be ashamed for accepting such a high salary.
Menstruation products and Contraceptives should be free to all women, as we have no choice on whether we become pregnant or not, other than refusing to have sex. Imagine if every single girl and woman refused to have sex, ever again. It would ruin our world, production would cease and we'd all die out.

Because health care is expensive, and they provide a lot of it.
Not just abortions, mind. They provide low-cost birth control, prenatal care, pap smears, and other reproductive health services. It is likely (though I haven't looked into it, so I might well be wrong) that the "money going to Planned Parenthood" is mostly in the form of things like allowing patients on Medicaid to use PP as their provider for reproductive health services.

Lots of women want abortions.

Planned parenthood contributed $45 million to our politicians. Our politicians rewarded them with $500 million in government funding. The politicians know that campaign funding is a prime factor in staying elected. This is how your hard earned money is being spent by your representatives. Wrap up the package as a woman's health initiative, and the public applauds it. Planned parenthood obviously doesn't need the money.
