A question to the United Kingdom ?
Don't you find it ridiculous to waste so much money on the Falklands and Chagos, when neither Argentina nor Mauritius threaten a military attack (with Argentina even renouncing militarism politically speaking?). I mean, all that money could go to the vulnerable in the UK. What do you think?
@Lord Bacon, while I agree with you, you must remember that the Argentine gov't back then was a military dictatorship. Since Alfonsin took power, he vowed Argentina would never go to war again over the islands, a stance that has been reiterated by all leaders since then.

Upholding sovereignty is essential for every country not just the British.
If states let their territories get invaded and the aggressors getaway with it, then it gives a green light for despotic and rogue states like China and Russia to invade other countries .

We should have done ( pre Brexit) , what the French do. All overseas territories are considered part of France, so they get the EU to pay for everything there because they are so underdeveloped compared to Europe

You can argue as much as you like, but if you get uppity, your best bet is to notify the Commonwealth War Graves Commission of your intended death spot before you do anything silly.

NO......... the Falklands are a British overseas territory, same as Gibraltar and several others all self-governance through their own parliament.... so the UK historically and legally 'look after' their own and that includes protecting them using military against invasion........it is a long held social community thinking and strong British mentality and works in a similar way with the Commonwealth (independant) countries, the UK is ready to help/support if they require, it is opposite to the US mentality of "I'm alright jack sod everyone else"......

While the UK has citizens living on remote UK territories, the UK is honour bound to do what is necessary to support and protect those territories. First we do what we HAVE to do. Then we can think about what we'd LIKE to do.
Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands once without warning. It cost a FORTUNE and many young lives on both sides to remove them. Isn't that worth avoiding?
