My grandad fought against the Nazis and captured by them so was a POW for a while, he didn’t even tell my dad about it, we only found out when he died going through his stuff.

No but my grandpa’s brother stepped on a land mine in Ww2 and was blown up

I'm not sure. But ive met someone who was once taken hostage. When I was at my dad's second wedding, I heard a man say he was as hungry as a hostage. I asked him where he heard that from and he said it's from experience. Sounds like a witty, yet callous, hyperbole to me. But it wasn't.
