Why didn't Trump just cancel the election like most good dictators would have done?

    He tried. 

    They tried to get Republican governors to just ignore the vote and flip the electroal college. That was a bridge too far and they didn't go there with donnie.

    Dictators take freedoms away. Only one side I know of is trying to do that.

    His "yes" people like Ivanka and Kayleigh told him he couldn't lose because he's "our favorite president*".  Their overconfidence is epic, and it cost them!

    The US has yet to see what a real dictator would look like, but we are getting closer. Be prepared to Presidents with dictatorial designs of Andrew Cuomo, Gretchen Whitmer and others.

    Because the constitution does not give him that right. Violating the constitution is a crime and would immediately mean congress would be entitled to have him removed and sent to jail.

    He honestly thought he could win, and Donald J. Trump has never passed up an opportunity to have his ego stroked.
