Do partisans have any better arguments than "the other guy sucks, vote for my guy"?

Not when one of the guys sucks. Because if he sucks badly enough, then there is no better argument for voting against him. And if he sucks badly enough, then there are no good arguments to vote for him.
If you don't want the "the other guy sucks" argument, then the solution is to get both parties to nominate guys who don't suck.
