What soap you use and if you out the clothes in the dryer makes a difference. Also the speed of the spin cycle. High spin cycle can stretch out any knits. Use cold water. Hot water can fade clothes. Don’t put heavy jeans in with your shirts. Watch what clothes you out in together. 

A washing machine should not put holes in your clothes.
