Insurance companies find it cheaper for them and easier because YOU are paying for the insurance. Maybe not so much over in Asia.  I know that the insurance industry got caught writing off high end cars so the driver gets a new one (while they shipped the high end car to Asia and made big coin on it.  It was a drug cartel(or biker gang or organized crime) side business.

In Asia, everyone gets the slightest dent fixed. We white people don't care and drive around in beat-up cars that a Chinese or Japanese would be ashamed of.

    That's  not even true.

Even if the car is not to be repaired it will not be scrapped but recycled. Most of the parts will still be useable and have considerable value.

    Did you mean scrapped?

Insurance companies compare cost of repairs relative to actual cost of vehicle. For them it is often more cost-effective to write-off vehicles.
