Tylenol is an over-the-counter medication used to treat mild to moderate pain and fever. It contains the active ingredient acetaminophen.

When you take a normal dose, it enters your gastrointestinal tract and is absorbed into your bloodstream. It starts to take effect in 45 minutes for most oral forms, or up to 2 hours for suppositories. Eventually, it’s broken down (metabolized) in your liver and excreted in your urine.

If you’re not sure if Tylenol is right for you or what’s considered a safe dose for you or your child, reach out to a healthcare professional or pharmacist for advice.

When you take an overdose it must be harmful. So never take an overdose.

Tylenol is incredibly toxic in even small overdoses and if the antidote isn't given within 12 hours of the overdose then there is nothing that can be done to save you. There are no symptoms of liver failure until 80% of your liver has died so you may feel fine after overdosing but by the time you do feel unwell you'll only have a week or two to live in excruciating pain. If you're thinking about overdosing as a cry for help or to get your parents' attention please just speak to a teacher instead, call a suicide hotline or call 911.

You may not die immediately but have a very prolonged painful death.

3,000 mg is maximum recommended dosage for a healthy adult.

unknown, as there are many factors, weight, health, speed of medical help.

I do know that a large overdose will cause permanent liver damage and if you survive, you will be in pain the rest of your short life.

12000 mg as a single dose or greater than 4000 mg daily for an extended period is considered potentially fatal.
