Why calling someone fat is offensive?

1, If he/she is really fat, they need to accept that fact.

2. Offensive is when u call someone who he is not such as calling every muslim terrorist, every atheist Joseph Stalin and every gay immoral.

3. Being fat is a choice

4. calling someone with down syndrome retard is offensive cause it is tcuase byt of natural selection not by a choice.

I don't know, Stupid, why do you think? Could "Natural Selection" affect Stupid Tommy's odds of surviving too? Maybe Stupid Tommy's going to get himself raped and maybe killed talking about fat people. Possible?

Offensive refers to the fact that it attacks someone, seeks to cause harm. In this case emotional harm, although often enough the attacks are physical.

This is a large reason why 'tact' exists, and why medical professionals are supposed to be given training to deliver clinical diagnoses without associating or attaching judgement to the declaration.

Answer:  If you call someone fat, you are not doing it to help them.   You only do it to offend or upset them.

What I find ironic in that is when someone does the same to you,  you say that is wrong.

Some people are fat due to genetics, a hormone imbalance or some other medical condition. Someone may no longer be able to exercise.

To your point 1 - people know if they are fat and it is not your job to tell them. In life you need filters. If you say what you want when you want it you are going to offend people, lose friends, lose your job, possibly be physically assaulted and possibly be sued.

To your point 2 - not being considerate of someone possible medical condition is very offensive.

For your point 3 - being fat very often is not a choice.

To your point 4 Down’s syndrome is a genetic mishap not natural selection. Very few if any people with downs ever go on to have kids so that is not natural selection. In fact many with downs are aborted of the parents find out.

To conclude - you really need to rethink how you represent your self because if you really do act like this with this logic it is incredibly rude. Please correct your self.

It depends on how its said and why. If someone uses it as a way to hurt someone then its obviously offensive. If its used as a descriptive word its fine (like if I was describing a person and said tall, fat, brown hair and glasses). The word fat isn't inherently bad. It depends on how its used.

    1. People can accept that they are fat but that doesn't mean some asshole should call them fat as an insult.

    2. Those are all offensive yes but so is calling someone fat as an insult

    3. To an extent. How much someone eats is what causes their weight but its much easier said than done to diet to lose weight. Food is a literal addiction for some people. Its not an excuse to be obese and people need to keep trying to lose weight if they are at an unhealthy size but it is a factor that people need to deal with and it cannot be ignored. If it was so easy to lose weight and maintain a healthy size literally everyone would be a healthy size.

    4. Choice is not what determines if something is offensive or not. The definition of offensive is "causing someone to feel deeply hurt, upset, or angry". If calling someone fat hurts them, its offensive.

Great rant Tommy. Now, did you have an inquiry of some kind or are you done?

You can't justify being rude, obnoxious and disrespectful. You sound like a child; grow up.

Because the fat person probably already knows that, and your commenting on it amounts to shaming them. It's like me calling you a pimply adolescent momma's boy who thinks nothing of the social contract we all need to adhere to for a sane and civil society. Study the norms and mores of civilization, and try to understand that it's not only your feelings that count.
