Did you ever own an old TV where the channel knob came off and you had to change the channel with a pair of pliers?

    Sometimes a knob from Radio Shack would fit. It might not indicate the channel, but it was preferable to pliers.

    Yes. Long ago, in college. Tiny black and white set with a coat hanger for an antenna. Kept the pliers right by the t.v.

    Yes, with an old analog TV from the 1970's, pre-remote times. The channel selector knobs wouldn't stay on the TV when I wanted to change channels. I had to leave it in front of the TV and then insert the knob, change channels then put it back on the stand.

    I have had that kind of TV, 

    but I never had a channel knob break.
