what is ketosis.. is it when  your body starts burning fat?

    Ketosis is a naturally occuring function in your body that burns fat.

    Ketosis is when you have reduced your carbohydrate intake so low you have prevented your body using carbs and burned any stored carbohydrates so it will only burn fat through ketosis.

    Just be aware even in ketosis your body will still store any excess calories as fat and it is not a magic bullet to allow you to eat what you want.

    Ketosis= a metabolic state characterized by raised levels of ketone bodies in the body tissues, which is typically pathological in conditions such as diabetes, or may be the consequence of a diet that is very low in carbohydrates: (oxford dictionaries)

    It happens when your body has little glucose to use for fuel (typically due to low carb diets) so the liver starts metabolizing fatty acids (instead of carbohydrates). A quick search online would've explained it. See link below for more info.

    When you don't eat carbs or sugar which pretty much exist solely to give us energy because they are big, complex structures compared to proteins and lipids, your body begins a chemical process of releasing ketones which turn the blood acid and results in it being forced to use it's stored fat. That might sound nice if you're a big fat slob but I compare it to having to cash out and live on your savings or retirement. Having to sell your grandma's wedding ring to buy another soda to live for one more day isn't a good thing nor is ketosis.

    It's an emergency backup system for when you start technically starving to death, even if you're stuffing your gob with bacon. People who do it for extended periods of time complain they feel tiered and weak and I think they start to look sickly and frail because they are in fact wasting away.
