Calculate Kc?

At a certain temperature, 0.920 mol SO3 is placed in a 3.50 L container.

2SO3(g)↽−−⇀2SO2(g)+O2(g)

At equilibrium, 0.170 mol O2 is present. Calculate 𝐾c.

    At a certain temperature, 0.920 mol of SO3 is placed in a 3.50-L container.

    2SO3(g) <---> 2SO2(g)+O2(g)

    At equilibrium, 0.170 mol of O2 is present. Calculate Kc.

    [SO3] = 0.92/3.5 = 0.26285M

    [SO2] = 0

    [O2] = 0

    in equilibrium

    [SO3] = 0.26285 - 2x

    [SO2] = 0 +2x

    [O2] = 0 + x = 0.170/3.5 = 0.04857

    x = 0.04857

    [SO3] = 0.26285 - 2*0.04857 = 0.1657

    [SO2] = 0 +2x = 2*0.04857 = 0.097

    K = [SO2]^2[O2] / [SO3]^2

    K = (0.097^2)(0.04857 )/(0.1657^2) = 0.1670
