Can you survive without a car especially in the winter?

I hate taking the bus although it is cheaper then owning a car. But having a car makes life so much better especially in the winter when waiting for the bus in -10F really sucks and you can get sick.

    Could I?   Yes.

Would I?  Hell No!  I haven't used public transportation for over 55 years.

Where in the world are you?  In the U.S., a ,monthly bus pass costs $75 to $100 a month.

Add in how much your time and comfort is worth -- figure $10 / hour.

In L.A., a reliable used car can be bought for $800.  Insurance is a big question -- in L.A., about 15% of vehicles have no insurance.  Gas is trivial -- about ten cents a mile.

You can consider moving to a warm climate.
