# I have a confession ?

I’m 19 and I never learned how I solve for x in any math class. I just never understood it.

Figure out what the value of x must be.

2+2=x

What is 2+2?

It's not a trick question.

2+2=4

So x=4

You will almost never need it in life so don't worry about it.   It is helpful on rare occasions.

That isn't a question.

there was no need

That's a weird thing to still be worrying about. Maybe it's time to worry about getting a job and moving in to your own apartment. But solving for x? Not so much

It’s okay. It’s never too late to learn. Here is a basic example. To solve for x, you want your equation to have the form: x=something.

In the example below, we have a +2 next to the x. We want the x to be alone on one side of the equation.

X is just some number like "what number" plus 2 is 6?

?? + 2 = 6

or simply x + 2 =6

Since we have an equal sign, subtract 2 from both sides

x = 4

So we know 4 +2 = 6  easy peasy!
