Why do Dems say if Trump goes after Biden or Clinton then it is Banana Republic, but if Pelosi and Shumer go after Trump then it's not?

Congratulations, you're starting to realize how politics really works!  And all of them do it, not just the left or right side.

No doubt you've heard the saying that all is fair in love and war, but that saying is incomplete.  The real saying goes like this:  All is fair in love and war, and nothing is forbidden in politics.  They all know it, and they all play by the same rules.  Those rules say nothing is forbidden.

There's a difference between legitimate investigations and illegitimate politicization of justice.

Congressional investigations into possible Presidential wrongdoing are, at least potentially, legitimate.  Presidents can do wrong things and those deserve to be investigated.

But what Trump did is completely different.  He tried to pervert American foreign policy to get a foreign government to help his reelection chances.  Thats what happens in banana republics: Presidents politicize justice to undermine their rivals.

The Republicans sure went after Hillary over Benghazi, there were numerous "investigations." The Right had been smearing her for years. And it was GOP Senators who acquitted Trump in the impeachment, and they said they were going to do it even before the trial started. That was only five months ago.

Only one of the persons you named is President. And he's been a colossal failure. Blaming Biden or Clinton isn't going to gloss over the fact that it's massive Trumpian bungling/negligence that has brought this Administration to this low.

Because trump is the president, so only he is capable of abusing presidential powers for his own benefit.

Congress holding the president accountable isn’t banana republic, that’s their constitutional duty.

Trump using the formerly independent judiciary to go after his opponents, and his pardoning his partners in crime is indeed corrupt.

Trump directing his agencies to investigate political opponents is quite different than the House following the impeachment process outlined in the Constitution.
