Turn on the screen monitor. You might switch it off

Turn on the power to your monitor.

ETA: Have you tried plugging it into a different outlet, that you know works? Does the outlet you're currently plugged in have a GCI reset button? Did you check to make sure the circuit breaker didn't trip? If so, sounds like the power surge fried the power supply in your PC.

check the settings of your monitor ... might be that it no longer looks for the signal on the right input

Is the monitor plugged into the same outlet? Is the monitor fried?

did you have your pc power surge protected ?

power surges can blow the internal power supply fuses,

but not all computers have such fuses.

laptops for instance have no need for such fuses,

seems by what you are saying it was using power direct from the mains.

open it up, check for fuses.

    you might just be lucky.

just replace the fuse/fuses found somewhere on the circuit board.

could the power surge have blown the screen backlight.

    i very much doubt it.

it's gonna be something simple unless it got struck by lightning.

in days gone by, such a thing would have messed up the operating system,

could be something you need to check also.
