Why did women in early societies favor polygyny? ?
and What led to divorce becoming widespread?

They didn't necessarily "favor" it, they just had to play along with the patriarchy in order to survive. What led to divorce becoming more widespread is that divorce ceased to be the social stigma it was decades ago. This was largely a function of society becoming less religious and more secular.

There are more divorces because the 'grass always looks greener on the other side." Our egos have grown and it's all about ME. People are unwilling to make the concessions and efforts it takes to make their partners happy. It's hard work to renew the love a couple once had. The positive connection is worth it.

Who says they did?
what choice does a woman have if most men are penniless or have died in war, in a society that doesn't allow women to have a career?
> What led to divorce becoming widespread?
Couples getting fed up with eachother, combined with capitalist individualist propaganda telling everybody they can get someone "better"
