Explain the importance of including both the uncut PCR product and a standard on the gel for analysis.

    Without knowing what the experiment is....These are both controls.

    Standard(s) are used to judge the success of the actual electrophoresis procedures including staining, running of the gel....

    The presence of a band in the uncut PCR product tells you whether the PCR procedure itself was successful. If you have a product in this sample but not in the cut sample, that would indicate that in the digestion, nucleases other than the desired one were present and the PCR product was degraded at that step.
