Is it appropriate to give a baby a nickname?

Not using it right away, of course.  But just to have it. I was thinking about Thunder or Lighting

Sure, lots of people do that. Call their babies Bean, Egg or another random nickname.

You can start using a nickname at any time as long as you are careful to use their actual name often enough that they learn their actual name.
