What would have happened if one of the Apollo parachutes had failed to open?

I understand that the crew would obviously die... but if, say, *one* parachute malfunctioned, would the capsule still land safely with only two?

    That happened with Apollo 15. One parachute didn't fully deploy. Apollo 15 splashed down safely.

    It proved yes but surely there would have been a Back up chute

    One of Apollo 15's chutes didn't fully deploy;  it still splashed down okay - but at about 35-40 mph, instead of 25:
