Thoughts on low fat diet?

In the 1990's, the US was in the low-fat diet era due to the research linking high fat diets and cardiovascular disease and obesity. This research caused the food industry to reduce fat and add sugar (high glycemic CHO) for flavor. The goal was to reduce cardiovascular disease and obesity, but this actually increased the incidence of both. what are your thoughts on this certain diet?

    People took fat out of their diet, and since this is usually bound to protein (from meat mostly) they also reduced protein. This skewed the macro nutrient distribution of the population to having a much higher carb intake while sedentary lifestyles became more and more common. It really was a recipe for disaster, and as a nutritionist I have seen tremendous progress when people go back to eating an optimal macro nutrient distribution.
