Is it in the best interest of the wealthy for society to view other people’s actions as being exclusively the result of his or her morality?
If society too readily acknowledged the extent to which external factors contribute to the choices people make, it would be easier for people to demand more from the wealthy and our government.
For example: the more financially desperate you are, the hotter the weather is, and the angrier you are because of your life circumstances, the more likely you are to steal something. You ultimately make the choice, but people are so influenced by external factors that trends exist. There wouldn’t be such reliable trends if external factors don’t deserve any blame.
