Will ironing repair little rips in fabric?

I have these polyester gym shorts, and there are small areas where the fabric looks like it's been ripped up a bit, I assume from getting caught on sharp edges of things over the years. I was thinking, would ironing repair the fabric and make it smooth again, or is there another way to fix the fabric?

NO !!  The polyester will melt. You need some non-heat fix.  ## EDIT - I was thinking of NYLON, but would still be hesitant to use anything but a cool iron on polyester.

what do you mean by "ripped up"? does it have holes? i don't have the slightest idea of what you're trying to "fix"

They're not holes, just very small rips of the fabric. You probably wouldn't notice looking at it unless you were up close. Apologies if I'm not explaining it clearly enough!
