If he was in college, I wouldn't care if he didn't have a job. In fact I would prefer that he didn't because studying toward his future is more important than slaving for pittance. If he wasn't in college, I'd want him to go get a job because then he would see that slaving for pittance is a good reason to go to college.

Is he having mental problems? Can he hold down a job at all? I suppose you can just feed him, and let him live in the garage.

Maybe he will get tired of the meager living and do something about it.

-Do not give him ANY MONEY.

-Make him pay for his own things.

-Threaten to kick him out if he does not start paying rent.

Is he depressed or suffering low self esteem?

After 12 years of public school indoctrination and generally poor circumstances, I didn't care about my future either. Tell him seek therapy and a part time job so he can work up to working full time. When he's more sound of mind he may see more possibilities for himself.

I gave him a choice when he was young. Get a job and go to college. If he didn't do both, he could move out. Then he could do what he wanted, somewhere else.

He worked his way through college and has gone on and had a successful life.

A metaphorical boot in the pants can work wonders.
