    By the law of energy conservation:

    =>PE(A) = PE(spring) + Uf

    =>mgh = 1/2kx^2 + Uf

    =>Uf = mgh - 1/2kx^2

    =>Uf = 4 x 9.8 x 0.6 - 1/2 x 20 x 10^3 x (40 x 10^-3)^2

    =>Uf = 7.52 J

    E in spring = 1/2 k x^2 = 10 * 0.04^2

    E from potential = m gh = 4 * 9.8 * 0.6

    As energy is conserved U1 + 1/2 k x^2 = mgh  substitute to find the work lost.
