Many French people can speak English. It's the only way for them to get on with us ignorant Brits who refuse to speak French.

Many French people speak English quite well. The problem is that many native English speakers don't or won't speak any other language. Most of the world uses languages other than English.

Is your question designed to be insulting & ignorant or does it just sound that way because of your ignorance?
