With the US war on drugs, what is being done about the poppy fields in Afghanistan, we seem to be spending a lot there?

America is only concerned about the drugs coming in from Mexico and Canada.

The only thing being done about them is guarding them. We are doing nothing at all to stop production and export.

Not much. You can encourage poppy farmers to change crops with incentives like financially support to start with a new crop but if you try to stop them that's an excellent way of giving them reason to not work with you. You can't win an insurgency without the public support of the local population and burning down their livelihood and telling them to go find another job is the exact opposite way of going about it. Hearts and minds after all.

If there was a more profitable crop for Afghanis, they'd probably raise it. But there isn't. Maybe they could all be trained to work in factories, or health care, but that would disrupt their tribal way of life. The entire population could be executed, but in 5 years a new crop of opium farmers would arise - unless we killed all Afghanis. We could kill all the addicts in the USA instead, to remove the demand for the drug. None of these options is humane or doable. The world is fecked. The solution is, in my opinion, to reduce the world's population by 95%.

We need to get with Mexico ASAP and destroy the cartels that we've financed with billions of our CASH.
