Is it selfish to exclude the father from a babys life if you can manage without him?

Not at all. If I decide to have one I will make sure the father never even knows I was pregnant.

Not merely selfish, it's illegal unless you have a previously notarised document in which he surrenders all interest in the child.  Even if you try something as FOOLISH as Seonaid suggests & try to conceal the fact of your pregnancy, the man will eventually find out & you may lose custody or be force to pay damages to him.  A dumb idea.

Yes unless there is a good reason. "I can manage without him" is not a good reason.
