in mult/div, the answer is limited to the same # of sig figs as the factor with the least # of sig figs

in add/sub, the answer is limited to the same precision as the addend with the lowest precision

    ********

this problem is addition, so we go by precision

.. 54.00 is precise to the 0.01's column

.. 78 is precise to the 1's column

    so

.. the answer is reported to the 1's column

    so

    .. 54.00 + 78 = 132 (with 3 sig figs, precise to the 1's column)

Trick question - it's 148 due to the two decimal places.

LOL, Hernando, you seem to have a mental disconnect.  You clearly don't know what your talking about. The answer is indeed 132, rounded to the 1s column since that is the least precise column. 54.00 precise to the hundredths column, while 78 is precise to the 1s column.

132 because 78 is correct in the units place.

If your teacher says round off to 130, I say he/she is RONG

    132. When adding/subtracting sig figs you go with the fewest decimal places.
