    Loads and loads of them.

In the past hundred years or so, some of the most notable countries to have a referendum and become independent include Iceland, Cambodia, Mongolia, Guinea, Algeria, Eritrea, South Sudan, and many nations that used to part of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia.

Brexit is a totally different kettle of fish, though, unless you were referring to Scotland's recent vote for independence from the UK.

Cambodia never had a referendum. There was a fight against the French along with a campaign by Prince Norodom Sihanouk.

Within the UK there was an independence referendum in Scotland (to leave the UK) in about 2015.

Yes the infamous Peterborough Survivalist Overlord Protectorate Enclave Independence Vote. 86 Nene Valley Avenue was partitioned such that the basement bedroom withdrew from UK control, and is now the World's smallest and least recognised independent micro-nation.

Most CE members do recognise the state

When did the UK hold a referendum on independence from each-other ?

Scotland held a referendum on their independence from the UK and N.Ireland has the right to hold a referendum on independence from the UK, without first asking the UK's parliament for their permission .

But, England and Wales have never held a referendum on leaving the UK.

It wasn’t an independence referendum. UK is already a totally independent nation within the EU.
