    Osmosis is movement of a liquid through a semipermeable membrane. It can also be the slow accumulation of knowledge. Think of "seeping."

    It's the movement of water across a semi-pemeable membrane down a pressure gradient (from a higher concentration of water to a lower one) to equalise the water content on each side of the membrane.
