Is it against YA rules, if someone responds to your question that is in English, yet their answer is in a foreign language such as Chinese?

Yet, you did not give any indication at all, that you knew Chinese. Is this against YA rules.

The answer is yes. Under the Community Guidelines, all postings must only be in English on all English language Answers sites. The only exception to the rule is when someone asks for a translation of a word or a phrase.

unless the questions asks for a translation in Chinese, that is a violation yes. Please report such "answers", and report questions that are IN other languages (than the one of the site) as well

It is against the rules to post in any language other than English, on the English language version of YA unless the post is someone asking how to translate a word or phrase to or from a non-English language to/from English.

So yes, it would be a violation for someone to answer a question here in Chinese (or any other non-English language) unless the question was "How do you write _____ in Chinese".

Yes, the question must be in the language of the site. For example on English questions and answers on the English Site and French or Germany on the French and Germany site. You could ask for a translation of a language using Society & Culture>Language Category/Subcategory

Yes. English language questions are supposed to be answered in English, but not necessarily the same direct of English. I can still read And usually understand French. We went through over 4 months of some subcategories of YA being flooded with Asian language questions a little over a year ago. Verizon updated the USA community guidelines. Asking for a translation often is NOT a violation.

It's a TOS violation. Report it every time it happens.

You cannot post questions or answer them in any language other than English if you are posting on a English language page. That is a reportable violation.
