Replace the x with 5.

2( 7[5] - 5)

2( 35 - 5)

2(30)

= 60

Just replace the letter x by the number 5. You get

2(7*5 - 5) which is just easy arithmetic

2*[35 - 5] = 2* 30 = 60

This is called substitution and you can do it.
