She has a large family all on state benefits and needs more than one.

The Queen doesn't live in "council housing". Her residences (other than her own private property at Balmoral and Sandringham) are owned by the British Government and the Government "allows" her to live there because she IS the Queen.

In the old book, The Queen and I, the Royal family is ousted from the palace and put in Council housing. Seriously out-of-date now, but very funny at the time.

Social Housing is no longer called 'Council Housing'. And HM has NEVER had Social Housing. She owns the Sandringham Estate, Balmoral and I think,* Windsor Castle. Buckingham Palace belongs to the Nation, but it's hardly Social Housing.

    * According to the link below, the Queen is allowed to live in both Buckingham Palace and Windsor for as long as she's Monarch.

@ Clo - isn't that what I've said here, with supporting link - " As with Buckingham Palace, Windsor is home to Queen Elizabeth as long as she is ruling monarch."

The only (former) residence that belongs to a Council is the Brighton Pavilion.
