What situation in life be compared to the fable, the ant and the grasshopper?

The fable is about the importance of delayed gratification during good times in preparation for survival when things aren't going very well. It applies to most things in life. It could be something as simple as putting off a purchase until you can afford it.

Someone who plans on going to college. Someone who pays attention in school, finds out what the college they plan to attend has for requirements and fulfills them, saves up for tuition or qualifies for scholarships, knows what their major will be.
The kid who doesn't pay attention in class, turns in homework late and fails tests. Four years go by and he has no clue if or where he wants to go to college or how he's going to pay for it. He doesn't qualify anyways because his grades suck and he failed two required classes that he needs to get in to ANY college. The Army doesn't even want him because he can't pass the math portion of the recruitment quiz.

they are just current examples, however, of the ethic that places immediacy and personal pleasure above investment and personal responsibility which has seemingly expanded in exponential degrees since the latter half of the 20th Century....

The woman who purifies herself, keeps herself in Love so as to love only Love (of God, self, and others), and then wisely gives of her spiritual oil and Light, and worldly goods and substance, to support genuine causes, whether her church or Save the Whales, etc., rather than to those who would turn on her as pigs after pearls, behaving beyond the ability of simple mercy to help, needing rather the mercy of justice.
