I can only speak for myself but I found that studying foreign languages gave me a greater command of my own. In addition I found that the study of foreign languages helped in the understanding of other subjects such as mathematics, chemistry. Studying foreign languages also rewires the brain and makes it easier to learn other foreign languages. The study of foreign languages also helps in understanding the nuances and concepts that are not found in English. As an example: in French "pays", "nation", "campagne" all mean country but there are differences in what is meant.
