Another answer is correct and most of the flights going eastward across the Atlantic depart in the late afternoon or evening, but not all. American Airlines and British Airways have flights departing form JFK in the morning.
Despite the hype, all of the major airlines offer about the same level of comfort and services in regular economy. Choose based on price and schedule. Alternatively, choose British Airways or Vingin Atlantic to start your British experience on the way there.
If you can afford to do so then pay for "premium economy", which is offered by most airlines. At least buy your tickets in the section that gives you extra legroom.
Note United Airlines does not have a premium economy option. All you can get extra in Economy Class is extra legroom by paying for Economy Plus.

As far as I know, all the flights from the US to England are overnight flights. I wish there were some daytime flights!
As far as the best airlines, I find that non-US based airlines are less profit-driven and more likely to have good food and good service. However, you have to be careful. You can book with Air France, for example, and find yourself on a flight operated by Delta, with crappy food. They have alliances, and often don't tell you who is actually operating the flight. Lufthansa is good. The airlines regularly voted the best in surveys are the Asian and Middle Eastern ones.

You need to define what you mean by "best" and what class you plan on flying - first, business, or some variation of economy.
