Whenever my dogs come home from being groomed, my cat acts like he doesn’t know them, & he gets scared & hides from them. Anyone knows why?

The smell of the shampoo the groomers use confuses the cat? A big enough difference in aprearance/scent can make it think its a different individual

cause he smells like the grooming place and he is clean and the cat is not used to that.

Cats and dogs pick up scents a lot better then we do, so its likely the grooming products smell funny to your cat and they look at the dog like a stranger. It will be back to normal in a day or two.

Different smells. Cats are too stupid to recognize anything by sight.

Because the dog smells strange for a while.

What they said. It's the same way when you bring one home from the vet's office.

Because they smell weird. They smell of the products the groomer used on them.

Before you bring them back in the house wipe them down with a scented pet wipe then wipe the cat down with the same wipes. That way they will smell the same and the cat shouldn't react so harshly.

Cats have a keen sense of smell, and identify others partially by their odour, which would be partially or wholly masked by grooming products when your dog returns from the groomers. If its really a problem, you can ask the groomer to use hypoallergenic products on your dog that wouldn't have a scent, which should avoid confusing your cat.

It is probably because your dog's smell changes when he has been groomed. Now smells like soap and fur is a different shape.
