This depends on why he's refusing to eat dinner. If he's refusing to eat because he doesn't like what you made then I'd tell him that he either eats what's on his plate or he goes hungry. However that doesn't mean purposely serve food that you know he won't eat, it means don't be a short order cook for him. If he's refusing to eat simply because he's not hungry or he stops eating because he's full then I'd just let it go because It's not worth making a battle over. Also like other answers have said, it's important to make sure that your child isn't having too many snacks between meals.

Have him sit till the rest of the family finishes. Pack his plate up and put it in the fridge. If he gets hungry later, nuke the plate till the food is warm and try again. If you are willing, perhaps a slice of toast later could be an option.

drag him to the basement, tie him to the washing machine. pry his jaw open with a crow bar and shove food down his gullet until he stops screaming. My parents did that to me and it worked out

Eat yours and then eat his right in front of him. Don't gloat or say mmmm or anything, just eat very relaxed and naturally. When he's hungry enough and sees you're not trying to poison him, he'll eat.

Respect his wishes. Maybe he's just not hungry. Make sure he's not snacking between meals. By next meal time his appetite will likely to have improved, and if by chance he's just being an awkward little bugger, you nwill be surprised how persuasive a hungry groaning stomach can be.

You don't indicate his age and or why he is refusing to eat dinner. As a high school athlete I skipped many a meal so I could make weight and then devoured pizza afterward. Per haps he doesn't feel well...maybe u should take him to see a doctor. If he skipped dinner because he doesn't like what you make then its up to you whether he can have an alternative meal or must weight till the next meal. I would definitely watch his weight, and you might want to check his room for illegal drugs and or alcohol

You cover it in glad wrap and put it in the fridge. If he comes to you later and says he is hungry tell him he gets no cookies, cake, or snacks until he warms his food up and eats that. Too many parents let their kids skip a meal then they demand unhealthy snacks an hour later. Don't let kids train you to give them unhealthy snacks after they turned up their nose at the healthy meal.
