Can bipolar mania end without medication? Is it possible to stay in a perpetual state of mania?

Mr. Possum is correct. Patients who are in a hyper manic state often become psychotic and this leads to hospitalization.

As you know, people with Bipolar in a manic state often do really foolish and dangerous things such as running away, buying expensive boats and cars, self medicating and believing they can fly by jumping off a bridge. We always hospitalize them when they are like this and it takes weeks to get them regulated and stable for discharge.

If you compare the mortality rates of bipolar people who are medicated and those who are not, you can see the terrible results of mania. People are liable to become psychotic, with unpredictable results. Suicide, homicide, and all kinds of reckless behaviors are possible.
