There are three options when dealing with a fool.

    1. Ignore him or her.

    2. Answer his or her absurdity with equivalent absurdity (in the hope that he or she will see their own foolishness).

    3. Attempt to engage them in meaningful constructive dialogue.

The writer is basically saying don't waste your time with option three.

A FOOL is an atheist and you must do BOTH with them.

We must no fall into the devices of satan ANSWER their inanity, their idiodicy.

BUT you THEN give a GODLY answer.

They then go their way, ignore you.

  • It means even acknowledging a fool (or a foolish question/statement) would give the person a false sense of legitimacy, like saying "you answered my question, so it can't be *that* dumb"

Some call this a contradiction. But they ignore contexts.

It depends upon the person and situation. Sometimes its better to answer a fool - and others its not.
