There is a dividend for us: The freedoms their sacrifices provided and continue to provide.
You are free to have any job you want, go to school and study anything you want, be as rich or poor as you want, and no one can really stop you. There's no caste system here that says, You were born in the wrong zip code; therefore, you cannot go to college. There is no governmental agency in place that says you were born poor; therefore, you must remain poor. Quite the opposite.
Companies pay fair wages, all day, every day. They pay a bona fide, guaranteed wage, with benefits, including vacation time, sick time, and 401ks of some kind. Companies offer bonuses and raises and promotions all the time. Just ask anyone who's ever gotten a raise, bonus, or promotion. More CEOs have worked their way up from the bottom than lucked into the position. That's just a fact.
You can't walk into McDonald's, as an example, and expect to make $25 an hour. You can walk into an awful lot of office jobs and make $15 to $25 an hour. You can go to trade school and get yourself a trade and work in that trade making that kind of money, and a lot more. My plumber charges $100 an hour. He's a plumber, not a lawyer, but he makes dang good money. He learned his skills in high school. More's the pity they don't teach trades in high school anymore.
Bottom line, the dividend you receive is the freedom that our ancestors fought for. Their sacrifices ensured that we would be able to do what we wanted, within the confines of the law, and no one can stop us, unless and until we elect people who don't like our freedoms and want to do away with them.
