If I try to send a letter intra-city with a $0.44 stamp, will it be returned?
There are answers to these types of questions, but they're about 10 years old. I want to know if its still how it used to be.

If there is no postage on it, it will be returned if there is a return address. No return address, USPS will collect the 11 cents shortage from the addressee. If the addressee refuses and there is no return address, the letter goes to a Mail Recovery Center, where it will be opened to see if there is a return address inside. If not, it will be shredded after removing anything of value, which USPS can keep. If there is a return address, it will be returned to you and you will have to pay the 11 cents if you want it back.

If you try to send a letter intra-city with a $0.44 stamp the post office will return it because the postage is 50 cents.

55 cents, or a "forever" stamp now

Current postage rate if $.55. You need to either put that much or more on the letter or use a "Forever" stamp, or something. $.44 will be returned.

Most likely it will be delivered "postage due" - which means the person receiving it will have to pay the $.11. It also means they will know you were too cheap or lazy to make sure you had enough postage.

Unless you add an additional $0.11 of postage, it will be returned.
