    Yes vitamins are necessary for our health. However as supplements, vitamins are only necessary if they're either at a subclinical low or outright deficiency. All told there are more than fourty essential nutrients, that are required for a human to be healthy. However the total number may increase, as time goes on, and others might be added to the list. As an example, lithiium apparently has been added to the list recently.

    If you eat healthily eating a variety of foods you should not get any additional benefit from vitamin pills. The hype in advertising on things like vitamin tablets and disinfectants that we or our children will get sick or die if we do not use these products is a load of bullsh!t. It is all profits orientated marketing using fear especially aimed at women. I have heard that overuse of vitamins can cause health problems.

    Ya, that's why they're called "Vitamins" as in, they're vital.

    You can live without them for a little while but you'll die eventually, in a manner similar to starving to death.

    By definition vitamins are essential nutrients for life. Are vitamin supplements necessary? Absolutely not. Far better to get your vitamins from a healthy balanced diet.
