Source(s): Women wear headscarves tied at the front to prevent headaches from sky pushing down and to prevent throat cancer. Mega-tsunami for New York will be 400 meters; then engulfed-in-lava Los Angeles will be flooded too; also, asteroid destroys Gulf of Mexico; only Alaska, Eurasia, and Africa remain (obviously without coasts). 1st big earthquake in Russia; 2nd bigger one in China (will be split in half; radiation!); 3rd biggest will be in the USA (Greek Orthodox monk Elidiy from Africa); forgive me.

Pure luck. After a while, he'll lose that, and probably 900 more.

Extremely.

I'd be skeptical without more information. For example. on a jacks-or-better machine, the probability of getting a royal flush (including redraws) is about 1 in 40,000. The payout for a royal flush is 800-1, but ONLY if you bet the maximum of 5 units; If you only bet 1 unit, then the payout is only 250-1. So if he was betting 1 unit (where a unit is \$1) on a \$1 machine, then a royal flush would yield \$250; you'd have to hit a couple of royal flushes close together in time and/or a few straight flushes/4-of a kinds to get to the \$700 - not very likely. However, if he was betting the maximum 5 units on a \$1 machine (which is really betting \$5, not \$1), and got a royal flush, that would be \$4,000 at 800-1.

Another possibility is that there is a \$0.25 jacks-or-better machine that pays 800-1 for a royal flush for playing max units (if such machines exist), so that hitting a \$1.25 max play royal flush yields 800x \$1.25=\$1,000 - this would be more consistent with being up \$700.

But you'd need more info to know whether to believe this person or not.

It is very rare. But, the odds of hitting a royal flush on the first 5 cards is 649,739 : 1. The odds are even better when you can redraw. Considering the millions of hands played every day, it's not completely out of the question to hit one.

If he was up to \$700, then he didn't only have \$20. He had \$700.

Are you asking if its rare that someone up a few hundred would put it in his pocket and then only put \$20 in the machine at a time? That isn't that rare.
