What?!? The USA alone throws away 3 trillion tons of food every year. (Source completely made up.) We're about to destroy 25% of the cranberry crop this year alone. (Source: USA Today.)

It's not a food production problem or an over population problem. It's a distribution problem. We make twice as much food as the world needs, but 2/3 of the planet is starving. It's a cost thing. Who's going to pay to ship all those cranberries to Africa, for example?

Hunger and poverty is improving in most parts of the world (atrocities and manmade famines not included). So, yes the planet's population is far too high. But on the local level fewer people are starving than at any point in history.

Are we sustainable? No, the world cannot "carry" billions of car-owners, smokers nor people who eat several pounds of meat per week

cant all have same lifestyle. the ones who are already poor and still breed too much should expect to eat rice forever. the ones who already live well and have a smaller number of kids should expect to eat well and live well and sustain their own way of life and not worry about what some other woman is doing to herself.

Well, let's see. If we total how much the world combined has spent on wars, since WW1, it would be in the many hundreds of trillions. It was estimated that with all that money, each and every person in the WORLD could have been clothed, housed and fed at least once.
I guess our priorities are a tad fucked up...
